The early history of shoes

In 8000 BC in Missouri, the remains of Native American shoes were found.

3300 BC An ice merchant who died in the mountains of France left behind a pair of primitive woven grass shoes.

3000 BC Oil paintings of shoes or cobblers can be found in Egyptian temples.

100 AD Bare feet were the most fundamental difference in clothing between slaves and free men in Greece.

200 AD Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius declared that red sandals were forbidden to be worn by anyone except him and his heirs.

In the 15th century, knights wore shoes with long toes (24 inches long), and laws that advocated frugality expressly stipulated the length of the toe.

In the early 16th century, high heels were invented under the influence of Leonardo da Vinci.

In the mid-16th century, 30-inch high heels swept across southern Europe.

In the early 17th century, shoelaces appeared as one of the most popular embellishments.

In the mid-18th century, it took nearly a hundred years to finally replace the traditional shoe-making method, and the first shoe factory appeared. Soon, the first shoe store appeared in Boston.

Early 19th century Flat shoes and Greek sandals were popular.

The first pair of sneakers (also called espadrilles) appeared in the mid-19th century. Subsequently, Elias and Howe invented the first sewing machine.

At the end of the 19th century, an indispensable accessory for clothing, the button, was also applied to shoes, and soon became a fashion standard.

Before this century, the shoemaker was as low a trade as the carpenter, blacksmith, and tailor. The design of shoes is not regarded as an independent, artistic work, but is regarded as a part of the whole shoe-making process.
